There is a significant difference between sida cordifolia and ephedra.
Sida cordifolia is much more euphoric than ephedra.
As mentioned, pseudo-ephedrine is a major constituent. Hence the euphoria.
(Indian Ephedra/Bala Root), which contains 0.8-1.2% ephedrine by weight as well as pseudo-ephedrine.
It isn't classic Ephedra, but it's in the same family.
It first hits as a general feeling of well being, and then suddenly you're doing tasks with full mental coherency and much quicker than usual. Very reminiscent of amphetamine, but quite distinct at the same time.
It's more mellow, more euphoric, and the body load is certainly less.
Literally meaning "youth" in Sanskrit, Bala is traditionally thought to help maintain vitality.*
The presence of small amounts of the alkaloid ephedrine in the plant may partly explain the reputation of this herb in Ayurveda.
The plant is associated with the ancient Hindu Goddess of beauty and grace, Parvathy. The herb is part of the trinity of attributes associated with women in Indian herbal folklore, Tripura Sundari, meaning thrice beautiful.
